Palia, an upcoming “cozy community sim” MMO, as they’ve described themselves, has been in closed beta testing so far—at least, until today. As of today, August 10th, 2023, 10am PT, you can now register and hop into the beta of the game yourself, no invite required.

(...But if you want to help a fellow Palia player out and help her score a cute but unnecessary in-game plushie and get a welcome fruit basket at the same time, feel free to use my referral link. 💕)

In Palia, the core gameplay loop involves the classics of the farm sim genre: you explore, cultivate the land, befriend the locals, and gather materials to craft all manner of things, but mostly decor items. The MMO aspect comes into play with the fact that the world is populated by other players, you all follow the same in-game clock, and there’s some semblance of a main storyline.

Palia – Welcome Home
A cozy community sim MMO for you and your friends.

Palia has plans to release on the Nintendo Switch eventually, but as of right now you’ll need to play on a PC with these minimum specs:

  • Operating System: Windows 10 64-bit or higher
  • CPU: Intel Core i5-4670K / AMD FX-8350 CPU or equivalent
  • RAM: 4GB
  • GPU: GeForce GTX 660 / Radeon R9 270 or equivalent

For my fellow Steam Deck owners who are hoping to play this open beta on the Steam Deck, please keep in mind that Palia is not available on Steam. For Steam Deck owners, that means you’ll have to load Palia in from the desktop side, much like other non-Steam launchers. ROG Ally owners can run the open beta as is, but controller support has not been implemented.

Happy gaming, and maybe I’ll see you in game sometime. ◡̈
